Nephilim by Hiemis
In the dark recesses of ancient texts and folklore, a mystery as old as humanity itself has persisted. An enigma shrouded in myths, legends and theological speculations. It is a mystery that transcends the limits of time and space, captivating the human imagination for millennia. This enduring enigma is none other than the enigmatic beings known as the Nephilim.
The Nephilim, whose name in Hebrew translates as "the fallen," occupy a peculiar and perplexing place in the tapestry of ancient narratives. In this way, these enigmatic figures are mentioned both in the Bible (Book of Genesis) and in the apocryphal Book of Enoch or in the Book of Giants belonging to the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The fallen angels, called "watchers" are celestial beings who descended to earth and held forbidden meetings with mortal women in addition to transmitting their knowledge. These meetings gave rise to a race of giants, beings of immense physical and spiritual stature whose presence on Earth caused a period of chaos and moral decay.
The mystery of the Nephilim extends to the annals of different ancient civilizations. Similar beings and stories of divine-human blending can be found in the mythologies of various cultures of the ancient world, from the Greek titans, Ymir, and the Norse giants to the Mesopotamian Apkallu.
This presence of giants in multiple ancient civilizations highlights the universality of the archetype, which extends beyond physical stature to encompass themes of power, divinity, and the eternal struggle between order and chaos.
